(part of a cycle of thirty-one poems, one for every day of January)

returning

into the early hours

waking up with the sparrows

listening to their feathery tales

resetting

my inner clock

to the schedule others

planned for my education

losing sleep to fit their needs

remembering

the daily showing

lights, colours and clouds

drawing on infinite tapestry

celebrating beauty in abundance

relearning

how to navigate

through the light fog

of early January morning

the harsh yellow of city lights

cannot hurt me

wrapped

in black
