#79 (bearing shadows)

light-and-dark

no rest

for the wicked

that’s what they say

he was counting

dead crickets

one billion a day

the light had grown thin

and the lines had gone black

the dark bared its teeth

passing shadows came back

no rest for the wicked

that’s what they say

he was cropping

the thicket

one metre a day

from darkness once born

so he strived for the light

as the brightness was torn

bearing shadows at night

no rest for the wicked

that’s how they say

he had slowly

depicted

several sketches a day

nature’s fury unleashed

in the rubble he traced

how the damage increased

once the beasts fled the maze

proverbs have grown redundant

and the wisdom he’d sown

seas of insight abundant

intertwined trough his bones
