#381 (poisonous promise)

that night you

fed me poisonous

berries and lies,

my ravenous heart

devouring all you

had to give. Deceived

a lovesick mind still

screamed for more

and you never ceased

to fill my needs with the

sticky substitute of

deception and flattery.

The daze, numbin my

pain, that bitter-sweet

fog I confused with a halo.

You were no angel, but

a twisted man, seeking

confirmation and later

I could hear your ego

shatter, once your construct

of deceit fell apart, broken

by the harsh light of dawn.

I was no child yet my trust

in you felt as limitless as

sulphur-yellow skies.
